He obtained his medical degree with honors at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) before going on to complete a demanding 5-year general surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Stratford. Additionally, Dr. Small pursued a one-year burn and reconstructive surgery fellowship at New York Medical College, Valhalla, and served as chief resident in plastic surgery at Ohio University, South Pointe Hospital-Cleveland Clinic Health System.
