Having a baby is a truly wonderful experience, but when breastfeeding is over, a woman’s body often looks quite different than it did before the pregnancy. Luckily, a Mommy Makeover is an excellent way to reverse these effects, restoring the body to that youthful, tighter contour.
Dr. Small has helped many women look better through a Mommy Makeover, which is not just one procedure but a set of surgeries and possibly non-surgical procedures that are tailor-made for each woman. For this reason, it could take as long as a year to complete the makeover, depending on the number of procedures you wish to have.
Of course, a Mommy Makeover should be postponed until your last pregnancy and period of breastfeeding is done. If you embark on it beforehand, some of the benefits could be lost.
The Mommy Makeover Procedures
The most common Mommy Makeover procedures include:
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty). In a tummy tuck, Dr. Small removes excess skin and fat in the abdominal area for a flatter tummy, and he often tightens abdominal muscles that have stretched during pregnancy.
Breast Lift. Breastfeeding can take a toll on breast tissue, causing the breasts to sag. A breast lift returns them to their higher placement on the chest.
Breast Augmentation. (with or without a breast lift). Some women decide to increase the size of their breasts with breast implants as part of their Mommy Makeover. Implants can also be inserted along with a breast lift to make the breasts both larger and perkier.
Breast Reduction. For some women, excessively large breasts cause a great deal of back, shoulder, and neck pain. This is the one procedure during a Mommy Makeover that might be covered by insurance, but you must check with your particular carrier.
Recovering from a Mommy Makeover
Recovery from a Mommy Makeover depends very much on your particular case. Essentially, you will have a recovery period for each procedure that is specific to that surgery. In some cases, surgeries can be performed at the same time, which cuts down on the number of recovery periods you need. It can even reduce the number of incisions, but this is a discussion for you to have with Dr. Small, as no two people are the same.
Complementary Procedures with a Mommy Makeover
While Mommy Makeover procedures usually focus on the body, many women opt to have facial plastic surgery or non-surgical procedures at the same time for an overall makeover. These procedures include facelift, liquid facelift (non-surgical), eyelid lift, brow lift, lip augmentation, chin augmentation, and rhinoplasty.
