Breast Reduction can relieve neck, back and breast pain, shoulder strap grooving caused by the excessive weight due to large breasts. Not to mention the sense of well-being and increased confidence that many women feel after having this type of procedure.
Dr. Stephen E. Small, D.O. and his staff have years of experience and can help guide you through the consultation and procedure.
Here is what you can expect:
First you will meet with Dr. Small and his nurse to determine if breast reduction is right for you. Some woman come to the consultation thinking they want a reduction and after meeting with the doctor it is determined that it is not the size of the breast but, rather the position of the breast needs changed. These woman might be a better candidate for a breast lift or mastopexy.
If you are a candidate for a reduction this can be submitted to insurance as often this is a covered procedure provided you meet your particular insurance guidelines for approval.
Once approved you can be scheduled for surgery. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 3-4 hours. Many patients go home the same day while others might stay in the hospital overnight.
Recovery is about 2 weeks with another 2 to 4 weeks until you are resuming normal activities. Your final breast size becomes more apparent at 3-5 months once most of the swelling from surgery has subsided.
