The Rise of Brotox: Why Injectable Treatments Aren’t Just for Women
Botox injections continue to take the top spot for most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the U.S. In 2013, 6.3 million patients underwent Botox procedures, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Six percent of those patients were men. While that might not seem like a significant number, it means 385,000 men in 2013 alone visited plastic surgeons for these anti-aging injections. The age of “Brotox” has indeed arrived.
Driving the Trend
There are a number of factors that may be driving the Brotox trend. First, more well-known men, including David Hasselhoff and Simon Cowell have admitted to using Botox; Cowell even acknowledges it is part of his regular skincare routine. As celebrities become more open about the practice, other men are tuning into its benefits as well. In addition, an increasingly competitive workforce is compelling more men to seek ways to regain their youthful vitality and appearance.
As men start to give this treatment a try, they quickly recognize the many benefits Botox offers them. Botox efficiently smoothes away certain types of facial wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles that lead to their formation. The procedure is quick and relatively easy and patients may return to regular activities immediately following treatment. Some men like to schedule their Botox injections on a Friday afternoon so any residual swelling or bruising is gone by the time they hit the office on Monday morning.
The “Manly” Approach
Brotox injections often differ slightly from the traditional Botox treatment, since men want their results to look different than women. While women typically go for treatment that impacts many different areas at one time, men prefer to focus their attention to horizontal forehead wrinkles or vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows. They may also decide to reduce the number of crow’s feet in the outer corner of the eye, although they don’t always want to eliminate them entirely. Men prefer to achieve a refreshed appearance without sacrificing their mature, distinguished look.
Is it Right for You?
Brotox injections work effectively on nearly any skin type and tone. The procedure takes just a few minutes to complete and there is no downtime afterward. Due to the way in which the solution works, it is primarily recommended for “dynamic” wrinkles – lines that appear when certain facial expressions are made. “Static” wrinkles – lines that are visible all the time and usually appear in the lower portion of the face – are better addressed with dermal filler injections.
Brotox is a rising trend that shows no signs of slowing. To learn more about this procedure, contact Ocean Plastic Surgery at (732) 255-7155.
