Breast augmentation has helped thousands of women of all ages feel better about themselves. It creates a more proportionate size and shape while helping women feel sexier, more feminine, and more self-confident.
If you’re considering breast implants, you want to know that you’ve chosen a surgeon who has the experience and understanding to create the result you’re looking for.
Dr. Small has many years of experience providing his patients with amazing results through breast enhancement procedures. During your consultation, he will walk you through the procedure and allow you to “try on” different breast sizes and shapes through the use of Vectra XT 3D imaging. With this technology, you can rest assured that you will be happy with the outcome of your surgery.
The Breast Augmentation Procedure
One of the choices you will make during your consultation is whether to have saline or silicone implants. Both are approved by the FDA, and each has its own properties and advantages. You will also choose the shape of implant you prefer, which can be round or more of a teardrop shape.
Lastly, Dr. Small will discuss with you whether your breast implants will be placed in front of the pectoral muscle or behind it. Again, each of these options has specific advantages and disadvantages.
The incisions will be placed in one or more of these locations depending on your case:
- In the armpit
- On the underside of the breast hidden by the crease
- Around the areola (the dark area around the nipple)
The scars will fade gradually over the first few months and will continue to fade over an extended period of time.
The procedure is usually performed under anesthesia and takes approximately one hour.

Recovering from Breast Augmentation
Most women are able to return to work about a week after breast implant surgery. There will be some soreness, swelling, and perhaps bruising, all of which are usually gone within 10-14 days.
Most patients only need some pain medicine in the first week to get through the initial healing period, and you will need to sleep on your back for a couple of weeks. You should also avoid exercise for a few weeks.
Dr. Small will keep a close watch on your progress, and you can expect your implants to last for many years.
Complementary Procedures with Breast Augmentation
If you are experiencing some sagging of the breast tissue as well, you may wish to have a breast lift concurrent with your breast augmentation. In this case, Dr. Small lifts the breasts higher on the chest and also increases the size of the breasts with implants. If you are happy with the size of your breasts and only wish to raise them higher, you may be happy with a breast lift alone.
